Cultural Diversity

Cultural Diversity by:Peggy Smith

I find the subject of cultural diversity very interesting. I my position at work, and in other jobs that I have had before, an understanding and an acceptance of the differences of people has made a difference in my personal attitude and personality with my fellow employee's and patients.

Media Technology

Media Technology: Satellites, Streaming Video, Internet and Cell Phones
Picture it, the year is 1877, Thomas Edison invites some friends over to his humble abode, he has a new invention he wants to show them. It was a tin foil cylinder phonograph. Thus begins the first chapter in grooved mass media. From the good ole days of “read all about in” in the printed form of media in newspapers to modern streaming live video on our computers and cell phones, media technology has certainly advance beyond grooved tin foil.

On The Writers Block

It is a block party for writers of communication studies. So bring your favorite drink and review the blog notes on communication and together we can learn from each other about what it means to communicate effectively. Speaking clearly so that others can understand you is just the tip of the iceberg to communicating. There are many deeper aspects to take into consideration. From tone of voice and reading body language and expression, to actively listening and special attention to the little things like someones culture, social ties or the possibility of a disability. Perhaps a lesson can be taken from the animal world. Animals may not necessarily speak in words, but they definitely have a way of communicating to us and their fellow herd, pack or what ever the case may be. Communication is a basic activity that takes place from the moment we wake up, to the moment we go to sleep. Without the ability to communicate or someone to talk to, life would be a dismal place.
